Methodology

Beam42 is an independent desk for curated company news and attributed statements across the Musk ecosystem. The free homepage is the full public desk. Paid products, if any, buy time advantage and synthesis, not a different set of facts.

This page is the operating system made public. Every story that earns a desk card has to clear four gates we can name: Source, Significance, Verify, and Provenance. Agents and cron run most of the volume. Humans keep the judgment calls (sensitive classes, the brief send, weekly course-corrections).

The four gates

Gates fail closed. A story that cannot pass stays off the slate, sits in Watching, drops to the river, or waits for a human. We do not invent a primary source or a significance line to force a ship.

1. Source

A desk story needs a real anchor: a company primary host or official X status, a high-tier wire we treat as provisional primary, or an explicit sources list with at least one primary (or untyped) outlet or two independent outlets. Rumor from a thin specialty write-up does not clear. Fail here and the item goes to the statements log or Watching. It never becomes a full desk package on autopilot.

2. Significance

If we cannot write a short, defensible why-it-matters line (one sentence, plain English), the item is river or roundup material, not a story slot. Routine cadence, options spam, and tape-move rewrites of someone else's ops note fail this gate even when the URL is clean. Significance is scored at selection time, before anyone spends draft tokens on a package.

3. Verify

Before a package promotes, an automated claims-pass maps every material number, date, and quote in the public copy to an http(s) source link. Unlinked claims fail closed. Quotes stay verbatim and need their own citation; they do not fall back to a vague package URL. Editors spot-check only the three highest-risk spans against the primary. We do not invent figures or speech to fill a slot.

4. Provenance

Readers should be able to walk every claim home. Cards carry outlet labels and direct source URLs. Structured sources[] rows mark primary vs independent when present. Google News hop links are banned from content JSON. Quotes and statement-rail lines keep a date and a primary URL. Beam42 originals host the desk story on-site and still cite the primary post. Original figures are rehosted on this site, not hotlinked from a third-party CDN. The homepage hero is an on-site original or thread package, never an outbound wire that exports your attention.

How a story moves

  1. Ingest: Public RSS, search inbox, and company-primary X first. Candidates land in a staging pool (metadata only). Banlists drop finance-mill private-share framings, SEO spam, and random Tesla crash clickbait unless Elon, Tesla, or a government agency frames Autopilot or FSD fault. No drafting tokens here.
  2. Triage: Score materiality, novelty, and confirmability. Assign a class (launch, product, filing, statement, legal-reg-crash, and so on). Apply the Source and Significance gates. Output a ranked slate of about five to ten items with a why-it-matters line and a delta label at selection time. Legal, regulatory, and crash classes flag needs human approval and stay off the auto slate.
  3. Draft: Write only the slate. Merge desk voice with quality gates in one pass: no em dashes, no AI stock phrases, facts-only copy (no reader coaching), crash-clickbait refuse, original body structure when the card is a Beam42 package.
  4. Verify: Claims-pass on numbers, dates, and quotes (gate 3 above).
  5. Ship: Human promote into live content JSON when ready. Bake a static site. Build-time checks enforce hero on-site, no Google News hops, local original images, and no empty content commits. The homepage visitors see is the last good bake.

After ship, the free brief is a separate package job with its own distinctness rule: an edition should carry at least one element that is not already on the public site at send time. Weekly learn is a short human ritual from analytics and open data, not auto-rewriting the desk.

What we are

  • A curated desk of company news and attributed statements: Tesla, SpaceX, xAI, The Boring Company, Neuralink, and closely related coverage.
  • Source-forward: wire cards summarize and link out. Beam42 originals host a full desk story on-site and still link the primary post or outlet.
  • Independent and not affiliated with Elon Musk, those companies, or X.

What we are not

  • Not an official channel or investor-relations proxy.
  • Not a raw social firehose. X already wins at volume; we win on structure and restraint.
  • Not a place for invented quotes, synthetic “Musk said” lines, or unattributed hype cycles.
  • Not a dump that treats eighteen thin cards as better than five clear ones. On a slow day the desk should look small.

Statement rail rules

  • Quotes require a primary or strongly attributed source URL and a date.
  • Prefer company channels, primary interviews, and filings over second-hand paraphrase.
  • Context is optional but encouraged when a line is easy to misread alone.
  • Status posts are shown as official X embeds (X’s widget loads the live card). If an embed is unavailable, we fall back to the stored quote and source link.
  • We never invent quotes: not for volume, not for engagement, not “in the style of.”
  • Not every quote becomes a story. Only Significance survivors earn a desk package; the rest stay a structured log that can feed threads and the claim tracker.

How we pick videos

  • Videos is a third product surface, not a YouTube search page: curated picks only, company-scoped, with a short desk note on every card.
  • Prefer official company channels and a short allowlist of high-signal independents or launch streams. Drama, politics, and reaction spam stay off the list.
  • Hard cap roughly 30 to 40 picks; favor the last 30 days. Evergreen pieces only when the desk clearly needs them for context.
  • Cards use official YouTube Share → Embed iframes so playback stays on YouTube. We do not autoplay, rehost, or re-encode video. Channel directory is editorial config, not scraped popularity.
  • Source of truth: content/videos.json and content/channels.json, baked at build time like the rest of the desk.

Corrections & independence

If a card is wrong, we fix the JSON and republish. Sponsors, if introduced later, will never write the statement rail or blur into desk copy. Trust is the product.
