Elon: Starlink constellation may exceed 100k including direct-to-cell

Elon replied to Sawyer Merritt and Cathie Wood that he expects the full Starlink constellation, including direct-to-cell birds, to grow past 100,000 satellites (Elon on X).

The post is short and forward-looking. It does not lock a build year or a license table. It sets a scale target for total birds, not a new FCC filing summary.

He also said future satellite versions may exceed 50x the throughput of a V2. That line sits next to the V3 bandwidth package already on this desk: higher per-sat capacity plus a much larger fleet is the growth case he keeps stacking.

Direct-to-cell is called out as part of the 100k count. That means the total is not only classic broadband user terminals. Phone-to-satellite capacity is inside the same long-run number.

What is confirmed is the claim on X. What is not confirmed is the regulatory path, launch cadence required to stock 100k on orbit, or how many of those birds are V3-class versus later designs.
